A reimagined east west route

Through many years of change, some historic routes through the Town Centre have become disconnected.

One idea we have is to re-instate a version of the Roman east-west route across the Town Centre, reconnecting with the amphitheatre via a footbridge across Bristol Road. This route could be activated through a series of new spaces and uses, encouraging active travel across the Town Centre.

Enhancing this experience is the potential integration of a trail (such as a heritage, sculpture, or art trail – or a mixture of these and other themes) to captivate and engage visitors.

We want to know what you think about this idea in general, but we’re also inviting you to put forward your own ideas for a trail through the town.
