Cotswold Design Code

Introduction

Cotswold District Council is updating its Design Code as part of its commitment to make the Cotswold District Local Plan green to the core.

The Design Code will update previous design guidance, especially in terms of the climate change & biodiversity emergencies. The code forms part of the current Local Plan, and will eventually supersede and replace this guidance.

The Council is seeking your views on the design of recent development to help inform this process and the content of the updated Design Code. Your input and local knowledge is invaluable and will help to inform the Design Code to reflect the community’s priorities and ambitions in shaping our future environment within the District.

What is a Design Code?

A Design Code is a set of simple and concise design requirements that lay out the principles and guidance for new development in the Cotswold District. These principles will support the national requirement for the design of all development to be of a high quality, and will reflect and define the specific local design objectives of the Council for the District.

The Design Code will aid the Council to determine planning applications.

Tell us about places in the District that work

A Design Code is an important tool for shaping the design of new housing developments in the District. The Council is therefore particularly interested in how you value some of the more recent residential neighbourhoods locally.

For example:

  • What have recent housing developments got right and what have they got wrong?
  • What areas of housing do you enjoy and why?

We’ve picked 16 sites from across the District which demonstrate the type of significant development that has been delivered across the Cotswolds over the last 20 years.

Please zoom into the map to find out which areas of housing we are particularly interested in. Feel free to also comment on any other place or any design related issues that matter to you.

Please let us know in the survey which place you are commenting on, fill in the questions and have your voice heard.
